Do not excavate the site too far in advance of the scheduled installation date |
When site has been excavated, insulate the area where the walls are to be placed and cover with a waterproof covering |
Insulating Values of Common Building Insulation Materials |
Insulation Material |
Approximate "R" Values |
| 1" of Straw | 2.0 |
| 1/2? Plywood | 0.6 |
| 1" Fiberglass Batt | 3.3 |
| 1" of extruded Polystyrene | 5.0 |
| Insulated Blankets or Tarps | Per Manufacturer |
Note: 6 " of straw has the same approximate "R" value as 3-1/2" of fiberglass insulation (see chart above). Also, mixing calcium chloride into the stone sub-footer and then covering it will help prevent frost infiltration. Please remember to cover the "extra stone" pile...it may be needed. |

Please consult with your Superior Walls sales representative for specific details concerning other measures that can be taken for frost protection at your building site |
